Huawei’s New Ascend D2 Shows Its Face In Leaked Press Photo, Looks Like iPhone 5

Huawei has already confirmed that it has a number of new handsets lined up for CES 2013 next week, two of which will be powered by Android. The Ascend D2 is arguably the most exciting one, and as you can see from its leaked press shot above, it’s a very good-looking device. In fact, its chamfered silver bezel with embedded white antennas make it look a lot like Apple’s white iPhone 5.

We’ve already seen the Ascend D2, of course. But that image came from a Chinese FCC filing, and wasn’t all that clear. The press shot above really does the handset justice.

Its internals look pretty attractive, too. It boasts a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. It’s pretty much the HTC Droid DNA, but in a different shell. Huawei has already confirmed that the Ascend D2 will get its grand unveiling at CES next week, so it won’t be too long before these specifications — along with the handset’s release date — get confirmed.

In addition to the Ascend D2, Huawei will also unveil the Ascend Mate, which is pictured below. It doesn’t look too dissimilar to the Ascend D2, but you certainly couldn’t confuse the two. The Ascend Mate is an Android “phablet” with a massive 6.1-inch 720p display, a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, and a large 4,000 mAh battery.

The Ascend Mate will obviously do battle with devices like the Galaxy Note II and the LG Optimus Vu. One Huawei executive has already confirmed it will be significantly cheaper than Samsung’s offering.
