Huawei Ascend D2 Revealed In Leaked Photos Ahead Of CES Announcement

On Tuesday, Chinese gadget maker Huawei confirmed it would be announcing the Ascend D2, a new Android-powered smartphone, at the Consumer Electronics Show in early January. But you don’t need to wait until then to see it, because the device has already been revealed in a number of leaked photographs, courtesy of the Chinese FCC.

Usually, we’d tell you not to read too much into leaked photographs, because there’s no way of proving if they’re genuine. But when they come from the FCC, it’s safe to assume they’re the real thing. There are three snaps of the Ascend D2 in total — one of its front, one of its back, and one of its side.

As you can see, it sports quite a minimalist design, with no physical buttons on its front, and a very plain backside. To me, it looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S II from the front, only with its home button removed.

The Ascend D2 isn’t so plain on the inside, however. The handset is expected to boast a 5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core processor, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. It’s also likely to have a large 2,900 mAh battery to keep everything going.

The Ascend D2 is one of three smartphones Huawei has confirmed for CES, with the other two being an Android-powered phablet with a massive 6.1-inch display called the Ascend Mate, and a Windows Phone-powered device called the W1.
