Facebook Messenger For Android No Longer Requires A Facebook Account

Facebook is changing the policy of requiring a Facebook account for Facebook Messenger and will now allow users to sign up using only their name and phone number. This change is an attempt to bolster Messenger usage by attracting users who want an SMS alternative but aren’t interested in joining a social network to get it.

While most of those targeted users are likely using another form of messenger service such as WhatsApp, it looks as if Facebook is hoping to woo them over to the Dark side.

An updated version of Messenger for Android has begun rolling out to select countries and will continue over the next few weeks. If you’re interested in checking out Facebook’s Messenger app, you can download it by following the Google Play link below.

When you look at the dark side, careful you must be…for the dark side looks back.
