Motorola Going After The Whole Kit And Caboodle, Looking To Ban Just About Every Apple Product Under The Sun

Motorola is looking to bring down the ban hammer on almost every Apple product out there, including every Mac OSX computer. I have no idea if Motorola is just looking to throw spaghetti at the wall or what, but they have a long list of infringements that apparently the International Trade Commission has agreed to investigate.

Motorola names a total of seven patents, one of which involves Mac computers. They all seem to center around Apple’s iMessage client for iOS and Mac OS X with infringing products including: the iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, all three generations of the iPad, the Mac Pro, iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air. The complaint was filed before the iPhone 5 was announced otherwise it would have also been included.

That’s a lot of Apple products, and while a ban on these would have a tremendous effect on Apple, Motorola argues that it won’t have much impact on US consumers.

“With so many participants in the highly competitive Wireless communication, portable music, and computer market, it is unlikely that consumers would experience much of an impact if the requested exclusion orders were obtained,” Motorola wrote. “Even if the exclusion order caused an increase in the price of wireless communications devices, portable music and data processing devices, computers, and components thereof—an unlikely event—a price increase alone is insufficient to warrant preclusion of a remedial order.”

This latest legal assault is a doozy, and while I don’t see Motorola coming out victorious, perhaps it will serve as a warning that “those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

Nothing will come of this. It is nothing but a proxy war launched by Google who stole everything from Apple. If Motorola’s track record is anything to go by this they will screw this up and nothing will happen.

Why do bloggers still talk about Motorola? It’s Google that’s doing this, Motorola is nothing but a badge anymore.

    Karma is a bitch Apple…..

This is a good move. Schmidt sees an opening and Tim cook’s decision to elongate Steve Jobs design and stand pat gives him this opening. Apple is on the defensive. Google is now in play.
