Gmail And Pinyin IME Updated With The Nexus 7 In Mind

Google had the Nexus 7 on its mind when it pushed out a couple updates today. First up was Gmail, which didn’t include much other than improved support for 7″ devices (running Android 4.0+). Other than that, they’ve listed “Bug Fixes,” but exactly what bugs they fixed is anyone’s guess. Other improvements listed in the changelog appear to be leftovers but even then, not much to write home about.

Another app updated with improved support for the Nexus 7 is that of the Pinyin IME. If you’re like me, you probably had no idea such an app existed. Nevertheless, I was alerted of the update on my Nexus 7 and it appears to be a Google service that allows you to enter Chinese characters using Pinyin, strokes and voice.

Improvements made to the Pinyin Input Method include fixes for the following issues:

  • Voice input does not work on Android 4.1
  • Cannot input new line in short message box
  • Selected text gets cleared when opening English keyboard.

I assume these are great fixes for those who frequently need to input Chinese characters but I wouldn’t know. So I’ll just leave this here for those of you that do. Cheers!
