First Order Of Business: Give Away A Google Nexus 7 [Closed]

From the moment this Jelly Bean treat was announced, we all wanted to get our hands on one. Since we left you guys hanging for a couple weeks, we figured why not reward a lucky reader with one of their own.

That’s right! We’re going to be giving away a brand spanking new Galaxy Nexus 7 tablet, and all you have to do is tell us what feature(s) make the Nexus 7 a winner in your book: price, Jelly Bean, size, etc.

Leave your comment below and then share this post on your favorite social network(s) and you’ll be one step closer to possibly owning your very own Nexus 7, courtesy of Cult of Android.

This contest is for the 8GB version and is open to U.S. residents only. Since Nexus 7 devices won’t be shipping for a few weeks, we’ll keep this contest open until Monday July 23, 11:59pm EST. Don’t forget, when you leave your comment, make sure your account is linked to a working email address so we can contact you should you win. Good Luck!

For the Nexus7 I think the greatest parts come down to are the fact that it is pure Android Jelly Bean, A good start at 7″ and the fact that I’m embedded into the Google system so everything I have from mail to music will sync with it. This would make a perfect on the go tablet and hotspot my phone for any wifi needs.
Thanks for offering to give one away. I love the site and info you guys take the time to give us.

As with all Android products, one of the strongest suits of the Nexus 7 (for me, at least) is its ability to sync all my Google data. Being a heavy Google user on both my laptop and Chromebook, something like this would invariably be useful.

I’m torn because it doesn’t have SD Expansion, and Tegra is still misleading.

Jelly bean all the way, it’s amazing on my GNexus, sure it’s great on the nexus 7.

  • Alan Cohen

    Jelly Bean!

  • http://coffeecone.com/ S. Surashu

It’s definitely got to be the Quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Just thinking of all the things I can do with that processing power is a very nice thought indeed! :o

  • http://twitter.com/middiedad65 Arthur Conley

Jelly Bean is the biggest selling point, but tough to beat quad core in a seven inch tablet.

I am inclined towards slightly larger tablets, with 4G connectivity … aside from those, N7 sounds amazing! Sign me up …

One word. Nexus. After owning the Nexus One, Nexus S, and now Galaxy Nexus I know that Google is has that pure Google experience that has the source to back it up.

I don’t want Touchwiz, Sense, or other crap that comes on similar devices.

    8GB internal storage (16 GB for $249)

  • Sparky Tweek

What’s there not to love about the N7? The price is great, a new OS is awesome, and 7 inches for a tablet is just about right without being too bulky or too small.

I’d like the chance to get a device with Jelly Bean since my droid phone is on one of the older OS’s plus the NFC and it’s actual hardware specs look sweet.

Pure Google and 4.1 Jelly Bean

  • http://www.facebook.com/ron.bailey.7773 Ron Bailey

Pure android experience and the tegra 3 is gravy.

  • Tyler Steele

Pure Google. No more annoying bloatware and no more waiting an extra year to get my device updated by the Manufacturer!!!

  • http://twitter.com/competentgirl Julie Baumler

I’m horribly hard on hardware (I’m on my 4th Kindle Keyboard in about 18 months) and I think the winning combo for the Nexus 7 is the scratch resistant screen and the fact that it is made by ASUS (I literally drove over my ASUS netbook and while the screen didn’t make it, it is now my home server.) But honestly, it is almost everything I’d want in a tablet! (I do wish it had a rear facing camera though.)

When can I expect the Nexus to arrive?

  • Greatmaddyave

Of coarse to a tech savvy person like myself the real draw to the Nexus 7 is the untouched, unadulterated Jelly Bean 4.1 OS. But its not just because its the latest and greatest, although granted saying, “check out my Jelly bean device’ would have some added awe to any device. No, other than it being the next cutely name iteration of the latest Android OS it would be still just a name. Its what the OS not only does but what it means for Google, me and the Android user alike.

Jelly bean is honestly what will quiet the battle cries of every Apple fanboys, almost practiced lines of complaints, of how the Android OS falls short of the maturity that iOS has given to them. “Android is just too lagy” “iOS is a lot more smoother” or my favorite “an iPhone JUST works!” -as if that is even a real argument! Yes, finally Android has stepped up and is ready to play hard ball with iOS, quote “calling a war against lagginess”. To bolster the maturity of the OS and the ecosystem, along with general user ability, Google has instilled “project butter” to cut out the “jank” from your day to day Android tasks. Now, in Jelly bean, when your finger meets glass the OS will ramp the fps (frames per second) up to a rocketing 60fps, but it doesn’t stop there; delivering a 1-2 knock out punch it also cranks up the CPU and in tandem with complicated algorithms that predict your movement jankiness has about as much chance at surviving as you do in actually getting a date with Mila Kunis. (Hey, we can all have dreams). All of Googles work has translated into an ecosystem that is both mature and ready for serious day to day usage that delivers a great user experience.

So yes, the Nexus 7 has more bells and whistles on it than the Bat mobile, save for the rocket booster, and has a spec sheet longer than Al Capone (NFC, Quad-core CPU, 12 core GPU, front facing camera, 720 IPS display…just to name a few) but what I am most excited about all boils down to two simple words, User Experience! Finally at a level that not only matches iOS but surpasses it, and that maturity in the palm of your hand, is enough to get any tech savvy enthusiast excited.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.fronda Fronda Lishous

Definitely an awesome tablet. I’m seriously considering putting it head to head with my ICS Xyboard 8.2 and giving it a test. For $200, I think it’s worth a battle to see who will win it out. For free, I’d even right a review comparing the two for ya ;-)

  • neiander

So much that i am excited about. The buttery Jelly Bean as a whole. The new notifications, too. I think the thing that is most impressive is the price.

  • Andrew Ross

I sold my TF101 to offset the purchase of my new EVO 4G LTE… now, I’m glad I did because I gotta get my hands on then Nexus 7… beautiful! Unfortunately, I’m not sure how I can finagle the GF into understanding how I need to purchase another device. So… here goes the begging… “PLEEEAAASE… PRETTY PLEASE… “

  • Mitch Helle

What I could do with that tablet!!

  • Brad Thomas

    Pure Jelly Bean!

  • Phani Tathineni

    Now….Now…Now….Goolge NOW it is!!!!
This is the most exciting and the much awaited feature I would wanna see and try out.

From all the videos and reviews that came out on Google Now, if this feature actually does what it says…and something that piques my interest tremendously, is that it can remember a location that I am driving to and can let me know the traffic on that route and give my alternate routes with less traffic….this will make my life much much easier and my mornings much less irritating, not having to get stuck in traffic every single day!

I wanna try Google NOW, right now :)

This seems to the most interesting feature and makes it worth getting a Nexus 7, not to forget a slew of other extraordinary features and specs it this device has!!

  • http://twitter.com/ucidennis Dennis Lee

I really can’t wait for the Nexus 7 to launch this week. I have been waiting for a Nexus tablet for a long while now.

  • androiddict

C’mon Vincent, don’t make this so easy!!! :)

Price – $200 – who can beat it?
Size – 7 in. – Perfect fit for on the go, or on the couch!
OS – Android 4.1 AKA Jelly Bean – Even Ronald Reagan loved Jelly Beans!!

    Default Chrome browser – RAD!
    Amazing display – BODACIOUS!
    Streaming media – AWESOME!
Deep Play store integration – AWESOMER!
An early X-mas present from CULT OF ANDROID – AWESOMEST!

  • http://twitter.com/_iRada_ Narada King

It’s just three things that make it seem worthwhile, nay, four: the latest version of Jelly Bean with it’s Project Butter optimisation, the twelve core GPU, the battery size (regardless of what they say about the battery life, a custom kernel should shatter that 8 hour use claim) and it’s made by ASUS *dropsmic*

  • Christina Wilbur-Pitts

First and foremost … price. Second, portability. Not too big that I can’t slip it into my purse, but not so small that I have to squint to read it. I love reading news and tech material, and owning this tablet would make it so much easier. I’ve never owned a tablet before, but after reading the reviews on various sites, I want this tablet.

  • Claudio Golia

The display and the smooth as butter JB 4.1

I really want to get one of these, need an reason to write a Jelly Bean app :)

  • Krystian Babilinski

The price is amazing, its pure google, its tegra 3 .
I can port my game for this tablet, but not only change it so its playable but I could create a tablet and tegra 3 experience.

  • CARPDM

Combo of JB, price and power make N7 a must have ! Gimme N7 Please! Thanks :)

  • koridawn

Give me Jellybean with Google Now!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/g.houta1 G Hammy Houta

The Google Nexus is a must have device. It’s 7 inch size makes it super portable. The camera in the front will come in handy for video chatting and skyping. An 8 hour battery will hopefully last me a day without needing a charge. Coming preloaded with Jellybean is awesome. I personally want to try the Jellybean easter egg. All this for $199 makes it far superior than the other mini tablets.

  • Robert Naranjo

Pure Google, rolling on a Quad-Core 7 inch piece of perfection with Jelly Bean, for 200 bucks!!!! What else could we ask for?

  • Kevin Bell

Other than the fact that this is just a pretty tablet, having a 12 core gpu makes this tablet truly something special, plus jelly bean.

  • Drew Abrams

Some Jelly Bean sweetness would be amazing :)

  • Eddie McBride

Mostly the price, size, and inherent geek factor.
I would love to have this. It would probably replace my laptop.

    Good luck to everyone!

  • http://twitter.com/Dsin1217 Dilson Silva

Price, size, OS and its a Nexus. I want it now!

  • Taheem Wells

The 7 inch form factor is always a winner for me. In addition, not only does it have Jelly Bean, but it’s a true Nexus device.. no CDMA variant tied to a carrier, but pure Google, as the Galaxy Nexus showed that not all Nexii are created equal.

  • Steven Koskinen

This is possibly the best tablet you can buy for this price. I have a kindle fire but I want this tablet soooo badly!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jayelbird Julius Besser

Price and JB are a winner. Size I really think could be a bit bigger, but I haven’t held it yet.

  • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.c.porter.ii Daniel Porter

The pricing is perfect. The Tegra 3 is amazing. It will do until cultofandroid gives me a pair of Google glasses!

  • http://twitter.com/kuhndawg25 Kevin Kuhn

The price is a big draw along with android 4.1 and having chrome as a main browser also makes as a winner!!! The whole idea of the nexus 7 and its features are a winner in my book!!!!!

  • Frank Bales

I’ll take one (even if it is easy).

  • Clayton Auld

There are so many reasons the Nexus 7 is a killer device! The price point and hardware (Tegra 3 with gyroscope, GPS, etc) blow the Kindle Fire out of the water. Google Now is one of the features I’m looking forward to the most, as well as the offline dictation available in Jelly Bean. I use voice to text all the time and it is a constant hindrance to me when I don’t have the data connection I need to perform the task. Also, the fluidity from Project Butter has me very excited.

  • Kit Freddura

The Nexus 7 is a great device because of the simplicity. It runs clean Jelly Bean (unintentional rhyme) and just works. Project Butter helped to smooth out Android’s problem with the slight lag between animations and now the Nexus 7 is a blazing fast tablet with killer specs and all for only two hundred dollars, what’s not to like?

  • http://twitter.com/mrschep Noah Schepers

I think the winning point of the nexus 7 is the new os! of course the screen helps but the os is the heart and soul!

  • Steve Billingsley

The price is great, but being a flagship “Nexus” device is what it’s all about! That means this device will receive OS updates quickly straight from Google, and will stay relevant much longer!

  • Alexander von Gluck

Come on baby, daddy needs a Galaxy Nexus 7

  • http://twitter.com/Lenq Lenq

Help me out of my Apple, cool aid induced state…you’re my only hope!

  • CopierITGuy

Google made a wise decision to team up with ASUS. Awesome hardware design and powerful specs paired with the fastest, smoothest Android OS yet. This device would be a success at $400-$500, but to sell it at $200 – now that’s just Google toying with the competition! Give me one (or two) and do it now!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jlfrandsen Jordan Le Frandsen

The OS: the update from Honeycomb to ICS on my wife’s Acer Iconia a100 made that tablet into a whole new device. Totally night and day. Further improvements carry Android device way beyond any fruity tablets out there.
Also, the price for me is just gravy.

  • Edward DiGirolamo

Best feature for sure is butter…. Google did its best to make animations faster and responsiveness snappier. You have to see and feel it to notice the extreme accomplishment. Last but not least the price ! You can’t go wrong with this butter flavored jelly bean goodness !

  • http://www.facebook.com/SaraPDX Sara Wilson Serna

Price, for sure! I’m already comfortable with the Android platform and I love that Google’s behind it. I really want one as my first tablet!

  • Stefanie Gladden

great giveaway! :) also shared on twitter, fb, and google plus! :)

  • Egyptiangodset

Honestly, there are alot of great features that make this device a technological miracle (even aside from a quad-core processor and 12-core gcard theres nfc, gps, the usual assortment of goodies and the ridiculous price tag), but the big seller for me is jelly bean: I mean come on, not only do you have project butter to streamline everything, but google now is just flat-out awesome. google has been collecting everything on everyone for years, and finally theyre gonna be able to actually use it to help you. not only does it have voice-search results that crush siri, but it learns as it goes and tells you what you want to know *before you know it*. google’s got some serious magic going on this time, and it looks to be epic

  • http://twitter.com/anikjoshi1 anikjoshi

  • Valentin Tonkin

  • http://www.facebook.com/brad.gienger Brad Gienger

Jelly Bean, it doesn’t get any better than that. Throw in the “Butter” feature to makes things smoother and the Tegra 3.

    It’s Google.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.anderesmullen Stephen Anderes-mullen

Yes! Google crome support now I can use all my extesnsions on my tablet hoorah!

  • http://twitter.com/ChuckNadum Tyler J. Anderson

Price is cheap, plus I have never had a tablet before.
On top of that Google created a top notch item, every review of it, and every website with tech specs… All my want, but no money. :(

  • Seth McKean

For me, the highlights would definitely be the small size, Chrome as the default browser, Google Now and of course timely updates. :D

  • ajerman

I’ve got an iPad 2 and a Blackberry, but what I’d really like is a Nexus 7 so I can get into Android tablet development. I think the Nexus 7 is a fantastic tablet package at a great price, and having the Playbook I can tell you the 7″ size is perfect.

  • Ivan92116

it’s Jelly Bean and the price.

  • Brandon Holmes

Googles apps seem to b getting better and better and with the addition of chrome its very excitng. Project butter makes jelly bean. The size is perfect as i prefer a smaller screen and at $200, it cant be beat. Jellybean looks amazing and fast so its hard to not like this tablet. The biggest thing to me though has to be the fact that it is a nexus device, straight from google means no carrier or manufacturer delaying updates or making it harder to root. Im super excited about this thing and I have to have it.

  • http://twitter.com/simtra Fox Wolfe-Johnson

What you get for $200. This beats out everything at that price point.

  • http://www.facebook.com/annette.hargan Annette Hargan

Considering the other tablets in this price range, they simply cannot compare with the Nexus 7, with it’s quad core processor, camera and scratch resistant face. Those three features alone place it way above the nook and .Kindle.

  • tizerrick

First I thought I liked it just because it was small and most likely reliable. But I recently just saw a video showing its durability. I saw it dropped on concrete multiple times and submerged in water, and it came back working fine and just had a small scratch on the edge (no screen damage). THAT is awesome. I’ve also never had an Android device, but I’ve always liked the operating system when I’ve played around at stores. It just has too many features to list…so much power/strength/smoothness in such a perfectly-sized package. I’m sure it will be able to play netflix smoothly throughout an entire movie without skips (unlike every single other device I’ve used, including my laptop).

  • Daniel Kramer

I would like to win. I’m an iOS user, this will get me to switch over.

  • Tyson Baird

It’s amazing how affordable this tablet is, given the power it packs. I like the convenient size, which makes it very easy to carry around. Jelly Bean also sounds amazing–I’ve heard that Project Butter eliminates a lot of the performance issues from previous versions. Of all of the tablets out there, I think that this one is definitely the best for the money!

  • Chris

The price and because its a pure Google experience.

  • McKenzie McCarthy

Small form factor makes it very useful for taking with you to work, I do miss that it doesn’t have a rear facing shooter but since its more for media streaming that is OK. Pairing a Tegra 3 with a sub $200 price tag is amazing. Having a 7″ tablet that can breeze through any Play Store program running on Android 4.1 is an awesome tablet in my book even if it had to cost $300+

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1380000719 Brian Caulfield

It’s a 7″ nexus for only $200, and doesn’t have an unnecessary camera!

It would be so awesome to be the first in my country to have one

  • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.anderesmullen Stephen Anderes-mullen

It’s a google device and cheap enougth to warrant trying out a tablet

  • Zak Kauffman

First of all, the price is great, although I would like a bit more in the storage option. However, between the size and the new 4.1 Android OS perks, it’s the first tablet I would turn to as a seriously useful device in a home with six laptops, a desktop PC, and five smartphones.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sajid.khanafridi.984 Sajid Khan Afridi

Wow this is great. Chrome and many new features are here with new nexus 7 tab. I want it badly.

  • http://twitter.com/Ghaleon Ghaleon

It’s great to finally see a good quality smaller tablet, I broke down and got an iPad a while back, but it’s just not comfortable to use in many cases (reading in bed being the worst) I’m quite interested to see (or better yet win!) the Nexus 7.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mvndaai Jason Mavandi

I just want one soooooooo bad.

  • http://twitter.com/NabhanKhan100 Nabhan Khan

    This contest is awesome

  • Jonathan Wong

    May the luckiest person win!

I want a Nexus 7 that has power and portability for use on the go. a 10 inch Xoom is just too big for portability. I also want to try out NFC. Only concern is that NFC stuff and usage requires WiFi. Oh well. The Nexus 7 is still awesome. When Apple fans like MG Siegler say it’s good, its really good.

  • http://twitter.com/azhurec Richard Allen Chaney

Besides the fact its the best for the price aka 200 dollars. The jellybean is puts it far in front of its competition. As a writer myself its 7 inches makes it perfect for when I need to write anywhere. Added perk my chrome on my computer at home will connect perfectly to the chrome built in browser.
