A couple days ago, Rovio thanked fans for slingshotting Angry Birds past 1 billion downloads with a short video that teased a possible new game. Today, Rovio has confirmed they will, in fact, be releasing a new game entitled Amazing Alex. Amazing Alex is expected to launch in “two months’ time,” and confirms previous rumors that the game would be based on the Casey’s Contraptions game.
It turns out Rovio purchased the IP of Casey’s Contraptions and has reworked the game in order to “maintain the high standard Angry Birds fans have come to enjoy.”
“The gameplay is a perfect fit in our arsenal with its approachable, fun and highly addictive take on the physics puzzler genre. We are currently reworking the title to enhance it, and getting ready to re-introduce it in a true ‘expect the unexpected’ Rovio style launch to an even larger audience.”
I never thought I’d see the day when Rovio would release a game other than Angry Birds, but I have to say, I’m relieved. It’s about time, and I have no doubt Rovio will have another hit on their hands once Amazing Alex hits the market.
