Google Maps For Android Adds Indoor Walking Directions And More In Latest Update

Google Maps for Android received an update today to add a few more features to an already amazing app. In today’s release, users will be treated to indoor walking directions, nearby offers, and 360° panoramas of the insides of participating restaurants and stores. Unfortunately, if you live outside of the U.S., most of these features will be unavailable.

Using the new “Offers” tab, users will be able to search nearby Google Offers and click on them to find out more information. Users can take advantage of offers on the spot or save them for later use. Users can also opt-in to receive notifications when there are offers near them.

The new indoor walking feature stems from the ongoing indoor maps project that’s been going on in the U.S. and Japan. Users will now have access to indoor directions at any of the participating vendors. For a look at the indoor walking feature, check out the title image at the top of the page.

Last but not least, Google has added the ability to view 360° panoramic views of the inside of participating businesses. Simply look for the “See Inside” section when browsing the Place page of a business and you’ll get a good look at the inside before deciding whether or not you want to go there.

So it looks like Google is making a push indoors with all these new features and I can’t help but think it has everything to do with Project Glass.
